The tram feeder service in our Trailblazer City, Tampere, has reached a major milestone: 5,000 passengers have travelled aboard the automated shuttle in Hervanta since its launch in mid-November last year.
Despite true winter conditions, the service has been running reliably with over 500 departures per week at 100 % operational reliability. This achievement reflects the willingness of locals and visitors to embrace autonomous mobility. The metaCCAZE team extends its heartfelt thanks to all passengers and partners for their trust, curiosity, and continued support as we explore the future of public transport together.
The tram feeder service in Tampere connects residential neighbourhoods with the city’s tram network as an integrated part of the existing public transport system rather than as a standalone pilot. Backed by extensive preparation, regulatory compliance and strong collaboration between the City of Tampere, Tampere University and industry partners, the service runs under supervised automated operations with remote monitoring and real-time control. Passengers can plan and pay for journeys using the Nysse public transport app and ticketing system, ensuring a smooth multimodal experience. Key components of the deployment include advanced remote supervision technology, automated charging infrastructure, and a focus on long-term integration, providing valuable real-world insights into urban autonomous mobility and paving the way for future scaling and innovation.
