We are very proud to share that our Trailblazer City Limassol was named a finalist for the European Mobility Week Award, recognising its outstanding efforts in promoting sustainable and inclusive urban mobility.
During last year’s EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK, Limassol showcased a creative and people-centred approach by transforming Ankara Street and Castle Square into a vibrant, 6,000 m² car-free space. The area hosted a wide range of activities, from family bike rides and painting initiatives to inclusive sports and mobility treasure hunts, bringing together citizens of all ages and backgrounds.
A key highlight was the launch of the Aktea Pedestrian and Cycling Corridor, improving coastal connectivity while creating an attractive, shaded public space. This initiative successfully linked temporary interventions with long-term urban improvements, demonstrating how cities can rethink public space for more sustainable mobility.
The strong involvement of children, families, people with disabilities, and local associations underlined Limassol’s commitment to inclusive mobility and active citizen engagement.
While Limassol did not take home the final award, the recognition as a finalist is a significant achievement. We warmly congratulate the winner, Riga, and celebrate Limassol’s inspiring contribution to shaping more liveable and people-friendly cities across Europe.
