Our Trailblazer City Tampere recently welcomed consultants carrying out an EU-wide analysis of autonomous driving and Automated Driving Systems (ADS). Their findings will contribute to a report supporting the development of future EU-level regulation.
Following contact with Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, the visitors met with local public transport authority Nysse to hear about Tampere’s experiences with automated mobility. They also took a ride on the automated Nysse bus operating in the Lintuhytti area.
The visitors were particularly interested in the level of automation already achieved and in seeing how the service works in everyday public transport. During the journey, they also met young passengers who regularly use the robot bus for their daily trips.
A separate online exchange with automated vehicle manufacturer Ohmio provided further insights into the technical aspects of ADS.
Tampere’s automated mobility activities provided a practical example of real-world deployment and valuable experience for discussions around the future of automated driving in Europe.
