The City of Amsterdam is taking a bold step toward fairer and more sustainable urban mobility through UMIX (Urban Mobility Incentive Exchange), a use case of our Trailblazer Cities. Instead of expanding infrastructure to address congestion in a dense metropolitan environment, UMIX explores how mobility can be managed more intelligent, by treating it as a shared responsibility.
At the heart of UMIX is a mobility credit system that gives participants a virtual allowance based on their real travel needs and possibilities. By making mobility choices visible and meaningful, the pilot encourages individuals and organisations to rethink how they move through the city. The goal: a better-distributed, more efficient, and more equitable mobility system that still preserves personal freedom.
The field experiment is carried out by our partners TU Delft, Technolution, AMS Institute, and Fynch, with the Innovation Department of the City of Amsterdam providing advisory support.
The pilot currently runs with organisations in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA), with the possibility for interested organisations outside the region to join.
For those eager to learn more or participate, the UMIX team welcomes inquiries, helping shape the future of mobility, one credit at a time.
