Kraków is the second in size city in Poland, both in terms of population and area.
It occupies 327 km2. In 2023, the city had 804 237 residents. Kraków is one of the most important urban centers in the country and remains a regional and international center of social, economic and cultural life.
It is the capital of the voivodeship of Malopolska. Kraków is a cultural and tourist center of Europe.

Challenges
ZTP plans to transform the newly built Kraków Grzegorzki innercity railway station into a multimodal hub through the physical integration of shared e-bikes and e-cargo bikes.
E-bikes in the vicinity of public transport stops already exist in Kraków (Interreg LOW CARB). There are 150 e-bikes across four stations in the city-suburbs. However, the city is not experienced in operating e-cargo bikes, especially for city center operations.
The planned multimodal hub at the Kraków Grzegórzki railway station is located in the city center, in a place where e-bikes and e-cargo bikes are expected to serve (among others) Access Restricted Zones in the city center.
Use cases
The implementation of the project will contribute to improving the quality of services related to the integration of two complementary forms of clean transport in Kraków.
Improving the quality of services in the use of modern, emission-free electric bicycles and cargo bikes, increasing the comfort of travel, and shortening travel time will contribute to increasing the share of ecological transport and thus improving the environment in the vicinity of the investment.
Thanks to this solution, it will be possible to integrate the fast agglomeration railway with Park-e-Bike.
Role of the living lab in metaCCAZE
metaCCAZE accelerates the user-centred deployment of smart systems and services that combine electric automated and connected mobility and related infrastructure across European cities.
The project, which is being implemented in Kraków, will enable bicycle rentals with the necessary components and access to applications, the creation of stations’ racks and fences, as well as their visual identification.
The project will yield valuable data on mobility and transport which will be collected, analysed, and translated into policy recommendation.
