The Municipality of Limassol, an EU Mission City and one of the four Trailblazer Cities in the metaCCAZE consortium, received two major distinctions at the Cyprus Green Cities and Green Communities 2025 Awards Ceremony, held on 5 October 2026 at the Presidential Palace.
The awards recognised two metaCCAZE Use Cases being demonstrated in the city with scientific support from MaaSLab, the Municipality of Limassol’s scientific partner in the metaCCAZE project: the WeeDRIVE on-demand minibus service (MaaSlab) and the shared e-bike service (Nextbike).
Limassol received, for the second time, the Cyprus Green City Award in the “Sustainable Mobility and Transport” category for the initiative “Limassol Moves Green: Innovative On-Demand Mobility Solutions for Teenagers and the Community (On-Demand Minibuses and E-Bikes).”
The same initiative also earned Limassol the prestigious “Golden Mouflon” Special Honorary Distinction, the highest honour of the awards. This distinction is awarded to the municipality whose project achieves the highest evaluation score among all nominated projects across Cyprus. It highlights the quality, innovation and impact of the sustainable mobility solutions being implemented in Limassol through the European metaCCAZE project.

The award-winning initiative brings together two innovative mobility solutions:
WeeDRIVE is an on-demand minibus service supported by a digital platform developed by MaaSLab. The platform incorporates an advanced routing system and dedicated applications for passengers and drivers, enabling parents to book and manage their children’s journeys to and from after-school activities efficiently. The service supports the daily mobility needs of teenagers and their families while contributing to the objectives of the EU Mission Cities by reducing dependence on private cars, traffic congestion and air-pollutant emissions.
Shared electric bicycles operated by Nextbike provide an accessible and sustainable option for everyday urban journeys, promoting active and environmentally friendly travel choices.
Together, these solutions aim to improve accessibility, provide attractive alternatives to private car use and support Limassol’s transition towards a more sustainable, inclusive and climate-friendly urban transport system. Powered by MaaSLab’s expertise in innovative and user-centred mobility, the two Use Cases demonstrate how research and technology can be translated into practical solutions that address citizens’ everyday mobility needs.
This exceptional achievement reflects the collective efforts of the Municipality of Limassol, MaaSLab, EMEL, Nextbike Cyprus, Oxygen for Democracy and the wider metaCCAZE consortium. Receiving the Golden Mouflon demonstrates how scientific expertise, strong collaboration and mobility innovation can turn sustainability ambitions into tangible benefits for cities and their communities.
These distinctions also provide further motivation to continue developing and scaling innovative mobility solutions that contribute to greener, healthier and more inclusive cities.
Awards recognise achievements. Impact is measured by the people who choose sustainable mobility every day.
