The Limassol Geoportal – Digital Twin, developed within metaCCAZE, constitutes the 4th Use Case under the Trailblazer Limassol Living Lab and functions as an interactive platform integrating transport, land-use, environmental, and socio-demographic data into a unified digital environment. Prior to this initiative, Limassol did not have a digital twin or a centralised geoportal, and data were often fragmented across institutions or stored in non-digital formats. The platform addresses this gap by bringing together diverse datasets, including even analogue or manually collected information, into a single space where they can be structured, visualised, and accessed by all relevant stakeholders. Users can explore both real-time and historical data layers, such as traffic conditions, public transport operations, shared mobility usage, energy infrastructure, and population distribution.
As part of metaCCAZE’s ambition to accelerate the deployment of smart, zero-emission mobility solutions, the digital twin acts as a decision-support tool for planners, policymakers, and stakeholders, supporting Mission Cities in defining critical pathways, assessing implementation measures, and tracking progress towards their climate-neutrality objectives. It enables the testing of scenarios, the assessment of policy impacts, and the identification of mobility challenges before interventions are implemented in the real world. This supports a shift toward more integrated and evidence-based planning practices, aligned with the project’s focus on user-centred, data-driven mobility systems.
Beyond its analytical capabilities, the Limassol Geoportal – Digital Twin contributes to knowledge transfer and collaboration within the metaCCAZE Living Labs. By making data openly accessible and easier to interpret, it facilitates communication between public authorities, researchers, and citizens and supports more transparent decision-making processes. In this way, it represents a practical step toward more resilient, efficient, and sustainable urban mobility systems, reinforcing Limassol’s role as a Trailblazer City in the transition to climate-neutral and smart urban environments.
More about the metaCCAZE Trailblazer City, Limassol
Alongside the on-deman minibus services WeeDRIVE and the shared e-bikes service, the metaCCAZE partners in Cyprus are co-developing two additional innovative services to reduce peak-hour traffic and urban congestion:
- A multimodal passenger hub
- An integrated Internet of Things (IoT) platform for energy and transport
