Limassol is preparing to mark European Mobility Week with a series of interactive activities showcasing how sustainable transport can improve everyday life. Under the theme “Mobility for All,” the events are organized by the partners of the metaCCAZE project: MaaSLab, Oxygen for Democracy, Nextbike, the Municipality of Limassol, and EMEL, and will bring together families, young people, and the wider community to explore smarter ways of moving around the city of Limassol.
metaCCAZE project activities begin on Wednesday, 17 September with a seminar at Panos Solomonidis Cultural Center (also streamed online), titled “Organise Your Daily Life: Tutoring, Transportation, Children, and Parental Balance”. The event will address the daily challenges parents face and how sustainable mobility can help reduce stress and improve balance.
Speakers include Dr. Maria Kamargianni, Director of MaaSLab and Professor of Transport Systems Sustainability and Innovation, and Marigeorgia Voskaridou, a life coach specializing in work–life balance. During the seminar, the on-demand transportation system which will be launched in the city of Limassol will be introduced. It will feature the WeeDRIVE app, designed to make children’s transport safer and smarter.
On Saturday, 20 September the spotlight will be on the on-demand transport platform, WeeDRIVE: Move Smart – Live Better. Developed within metaCCAZE, WeeDRIVE is a service that helps families organize teenage transport for afternoon and weekend activities, reducing congestion and saving valuable time.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the WeeDRIVE mini-buses, test the app, and speak directly with the drivers, gaining first-hand experience of how technology can support family routines.
Later that day, citizens will take part in a Mobility Treasure Hunt in the Limassol Castle area. Teams of 2–4 people will solve riddles, scan QR codes, and complete challenges while discovering bike lanes, bus stops, and bike rental stations. Designed for families, young people, and groups of friends, the game will combine teamwork, problem-solving, and exploration of the city in a sustainable way.
The program concludes on Sunday, 21 September with a Morning Bike Ride through Limassol’s coastal roads, landmarks, and sustainable mobility sites. The ride, supported by volunteers from Nextbike, our local partner in Limassol, is open to participants of all ages and skill levels. Cyclists can use e-bike rentals available across the city through the metaCCAZE project.
With these activities, the trailblazer city of Limassol and its Living Lab partners demonstrate how innovation and community engagement can transform urban mobility. From easing the daily pressures of parents to making city transport safer, healthier and more inclusive, the events highlight practical ways that “Mobility for Everyone” can become a reality in Limassol and beyond.
