The metaCCAZE project has reached an important stage in the development of its innovative mobility solutions with the publication of Deliverable D2.2 – MetaInnovations: Align, Charge, Automate, Connect, Manage and Integrate. Covering the period from July 2025 to January 2026, the deliverable documents the adjustments, refinements and further developments made to the technologies following their implementation, testing and first demonstration activities in the Trailblazer Living Labs.
The work is structured around the seven technological domains of the metaCCAZE MetaInnovations Toolkit: Align, Harmonise, Charge, Automate, Connect, Manage & Control, and Integrate & Plan. Under Align, the grid–fleet–demand optimisation models were further developed to consider both electric bus operators and energy management authorities, while the AI-based recommendation and incentivisation engine progressed towards supporting more sustainable charging practices and the integration of renewable energy. Under Harmonise, the AI Data Warehouse and its first APIs and connectors were developed as a horizontal data backbone for the project, enabling the exchange and integration of data across the different electrification, automation, connectivity and digital-twin solutions. The Charge domain progressed towards proof-of-concept solutions for automated stationary and dynamic charging and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) applications for autonomous electric vehicles. In Automate, major advances were made in the Remote-Control Centre, Advanced Driver Assistance System and real-time planning for autonomous modular bus fleets. Initial real-world validation was achieved for the autonomous navigation system, while fleet scheduling models demonstrated the potential to significantly improve operational efficiency. The Connect innovations also moved closer to deployment, with sensor-based data acquisition infrastructure becoming more robust and interoperable, alongside developments in secure cloud operations, near-real-time data exchange, V2X communication and intelligent road supervision. Under Manage & Control, new models and tools addressed electric vehicle scheduling, charging infrastructure planning, electric bus line planning, low-emission traffic management, mobility credits and supply–demand matching. Meanwhile, the Integrate & Plan domain advanced the project’s Digital Twin environments.
Overall, D2.2 demonstrates how the metaCCAZE innovations have progressed from concepts and prototypes towards tested and increasingly mature solutions. The developments provide a common technological foundation for deploying flexible, open and robust zero-emission shared mobility (ZESM) solutions, while also supporting the project’s wider objectives around sustainable urban mobility, digitalisation and collaborative business and governance models.
